New Delhi: India’s original “tall boy” car, the Hyundai Santro, was relaunched on Tuesday at a starting price of ₹3,89,000, three years after it was discontinued in 2015. The new Santro will replace the Eon and will sit below the Grand i10 in Hyundai Motor Co.’s India lineup. The car has so far received 23,500 bookings so far across its five variants—Dlite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta—in various powertrain options. The booking amount for the new Santro has been set at ₹11,000.

Hyundai Santro specifications

The new Santro comes in three engine options—manual, automatic and CNG. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.1-litre, four-cylinder engine that makes 68 BHP at the crank and 99NM of peak torque. The CNG engine, on the other hand, generates 59 BHP of power and delivers 20.3kmpl fuel economy.

Although the car retains the tall-boy stance of its predecessor launched in 1997, contours have changed dramatically since then for a more muted, yet contemporary design. The new Santro is 45mm longer and has a wheelbase of 3610 mm and drives on 14-inch steel wheels. The design cues are now more angular than rounded.

Talking of the variants Santro Dlite is as bare-boned as a base model should be. It comes with no power steering or electric windows but has driver’s side airbag and ABS with electronic brake distribution (EBD). The variant that sits just above it, the Santro Era, comes with power steering and AC with heater. These two variants come with manual transmission only.

The Santro Magna receives rear AC vents, power windows and 2DIN stereo with AUX, USB and Bluetooth while the Sportz variant receives steering mounted controls, reverse parking sensors, rear defogger and a touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and mirror-link enabled. These two variants come in manual, automatic and CNG variants.

The top-spec Santro Asta gets a reversing camera, rear washer and wiper, in addition to all the above features.

The new Santro comes in seven colours—Imperial Beige, Marina Blue, Fiery Red, Typhoon Silver, Polar White and Stardust.
